In 2025, are you thinking of borrowing money from the gods to boost your fortune? Checheng Fu’an Temple is one of Taiwan’s most popular wealth temples, where locals seek financial blessings and replenish their “money vault.”
This guide walks you through the worship process at Fu’an Temple, common taboos, and the cultural meaning behind asking for money blessings. Whether you’re new to Taiwanese folk beliefs or simply curious, this post has everything you need to know—clearly explained with photos.
Main Deity Worshiped: The Earth God (Fude Zhengshen)
Established: Built in 1654 during the Ming Yongli period, Fu’an Temple is officially recognized as one of the oldest temples in Taiwan dedicated to the Earth God.
Unique Features: The main statue of the Earth God is dressed in an imperial robe and wears an official hat—symbolizing both governmental and financial blessings. The deity is also honored with golden plaques granted by emperors, a rare recognition in Taiwan.
Temple Scale: The temple boasts a grand three-hall, six-level layout with twin towers and five ceremonial gates. Its golden and majestic architecture has earned it the title of “The Largest Earth God Temple in Southeast Asia.”
Borrowing money from the Earth God is a symbolic ritual to receive divine financial energy and invite good fortune into one’s life. Although it’s called “borrowing,” the money isn’t meant to be spent. Instead, it serves as a charm to attract wealth and prosperity. Many people believe that when their financial energy feels unstable or their luck is down, receiving this blessing can help restore balance and ‘patch up’ their fortune.
Worshippers can take part in a formal ritual to borrow a symbolic “money blessing” from the Earth God—inviting prosperity and shifting their fortune.
Anyone over the age of 20 can bring valid ID to the Cultural Center, toss jiaobei blocks (for divine approval), and receive the “fortune-changing money blessing.”
Here’s a step-by-step guide to the ritual process👇

金元寶Golden Ingots and Fortune Symbols
中部以紫南宮的金雞母最有名,南部有福安宮的金元寶。
In central Taiwan, the most famous fortune symbol is the Golden Hen from Zinan Temple; in the south, Fu’an Temple is well known for its golden ingots (jin yuanbao) that represent wealth and prosperity.
Located just beneath the gate of Fu’an Temple, “Shi-Chuan Mung Bean Dessert” has been a beloved local treat for over 30 years. It’s a must-try after worshipping at the temple. Made with peeled mung beans, chewy noodles, and a brown sugar base, it’s topped with shaved ice for a refreshingly light taste. Perfectly cooling in summer and served warm in winter—this dessert is enjoyable all year round!
These duck eggs are cured using spring water from Sichongxi, red clay, and coarse salt. Available in both traditional and grilled versions, they are flavorful without being overly salty. A must-buy local souvenir when visiting Fu’an Temple.
